In our Reception class, we focus on building on children's natural curiosity, creating an environment where every day is filled with exciting and memorable experiences. By connecting their learning with their individual interests, we ensure that each child is engaged and motivated to explore the world around them. These vibrant experiences layer their learning, making new knowledge meaningful and relevant to their lives.

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework as a guide, ensuring that all aspects of a child’s development—whether cognitive, social, emotional, or physical—are nurtured through a play-based curriculum. The activities and experiences we provide are designed to spark curiosity and develop essential skills, fostering a love for learning that will last a lifetime.

Our approach ensures that every child’s journey is unique, enriching, and enjoyable, as they begin to make connections between their world and the wider community. By embracing and celebrating each child's interests, we create an atmosphere where learning is not only fun but also deeply meaningful.

At Barns Green we are passionate about reading and we really need your help to ensure that your child has the best possible start on their reading journey. Current educational research indicates that children should be exposed to books which reflect their phonics knowledge as taught at school. This is why when the children start school they will be given wordless books to begin the earliest stages of the phonics program. To help support families at home we have attached a guide "getting the most out of wordless books."
