Eco School award 2025

Barns Green as been awarded the prestigious Eco School Green Flag after an amazing first year with our Eco Warriors.

Operated globally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and in the UK by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award is an international accreditation scheme that has been highlighting and rewarding young people’s environmental actions for more than 25 years.

From a range of ten themes provided by the Eco-Schools scheme, the Eco Committee chose to work on three core areas:

Biodiversity
Transport
Citizenship
This choice was based on a school-wide environmental review, conducted to identify opportunities for action.

We are all incredibly proud of the whole school  who worked towards this award!

Rainbow flag award 2026

Barns Green Primary is proud to say that we are now holders of the Rainbow Flag Award! We are incredibly proud to be one of only five primary schools in West Sussex who have achieved this inclusive award.  The Rainbow Flag Award is a national quality assurance framework for primary schools, secondary schools and SEND schools. This award demonstrates  our whole school approach to LGBTQ+ inclusion, as well as the strategies we have gained to effectively challenge and combat transphobic, homophobic and biphobic bullying.

The award focuses on six key areas:

Skilled Teachers
Supportive Governors and Parents
Effective Policies
Inclusive Curriculum
Pastoral Support
Pupil Voice

Staff have worked together to create resources and to develop our inclusive school environment. Through our work, we aim to ensure that our children feel confident to talk about their families, to each other, staff and to their families using the right language.

We feel passionately that as a school we have a moral duty to ensure that we promote inclusion and equality for all, which is legally supported by The Equalities Act 2010.
